Though I love to paint, take photo's and make films, I do not identify myself as either a painter, a photographer or a filmmaker. This is because to me it doesn't matter how I create work, all that matters is why I created it. I love the idea that I don't have to be "pro" at any medium, I make my way through art and design projects by assessing what would look good for that specific piece, and leave myself open to the possibility of exploring a new medium. This isn't to say you should have the same philosophy, but what I am trying to highlight is the importance of why over how. What drive's you, why do you do what you do? Don't feel overwhelmed by this question, the beauty of drive is that it can constantly change. Different passion's will fuel your reason's for doing what you do, and maybe you will learn of new passion's as you go. This is why you should identify your drive everyday. When you are stressed about nitty gritty details of something so particular, take a step back and think about why. Ask yourself why multiple times in a row, why am I doing this? To complete the assignment. Why am I doing the assignment? To finish my degree. Why am I doing the degree? And so on. This will allow you to visualise your future and remind you of the benefits you will receive from getting through this momentary stress, or it could just as easily go the other way and help you realise it's not something you want to be doing. Listen to your drive first, and then the how. |
