Your brain is so clever that it has priorities of it's own. Your mind will always have a list of the top things you need to concentrate on. Whether its the environment you're in and you're concentrating on traffic to cross the road, whether you've got a job interview and your concentrating on what to say, or whether you've got a project due soon and your full concentration is on completing it. Your mind continues to shuffle the importance of these tasks, to the point that your mind naturally decides what to concentrate on, no matter how much you wish to concentrate on something else. It's important to understand this in order to make creative work your top priority when you need it to be. In order to get creativity at the top of your mind's natural list, you will have to eliminate the other tasks your mind is putting before it. That might mean moving to a more peaceful location where you aren't concentrating on the environment around you, or it might mean you have to get other thing's done in order to remove them from the list. It should make sense now why being in calm environments like the shower, in bed or during a peaceful walk, allow you to have a flow of creative thoughts. You are removing the other natural priorities for concentration your mind puts ahead of creativity, thus allowing it to move up in importance. It's not that you aren't creative enough, it's that your mind can't consider it a top priority right now for some reason. Find out what that reason is and you're one step closer to having creative thoughts find you a lot easier. |
