This kind of sounds like backwards advice for creative motivation. But you might be surprised at how helpful it is to leave your work unfinished. It involves the same power as taking breaks and letting yourself relax. Get out of your creative block and get back into the flow by just stopping what you're doing. Come back to it after a walk, or the next morning and see what new inspirations have hit you in that time. Have you ever had a full day of feeling stumped for ideas, only to wake up the next morning knowing exactly what you need to do? This has happened to me countless times! If I waste a whole day running through stress induced ideas, then it takes the full night of sleep to let my brain relax enough to sift through where the good ideas are. Next time you're stuck just drop the work, don't stop to finish up what you were doing and don't even close down the files or put the pens and paper away. Leave it right where you are now... and come back to it when it suits you. You might be surprised what actions you take next compared to what you could have done if you tried to continue. |
