Ah, the myth that if you're a creative person you should be able to have crazy awesome creative ideas all the time. This just isn't true, and it's not only a lesson for others to learn, but yourself. It can be a struggle when people expect more of you than you can achieve, and that is especially damaging when you expect more of yourself than you're even capable of. I believe it's possible to evoke motivation and creativity, I've posted countless pieces of advice (actually this is number 169), saying not to give up and that there is always a form of creativity inside of you waiting to be unleashed. But it's also true that we as humans have our off days, our mistakes, our failures and our regrets. We need to give ourselves breaks in order to keep on top of creativity and life. Sometimes even when your heart wants to be creative, your brain wants you to take a break. Accept that you're not perfect, nobody is. Allow yourself to have an off day so you can pick yourself back up later. It's not about lowering your expectations, I love seeing people dream beyond their wildest capabilities. It's about keeping your physical and mental health in order, staying positive even on the down days, and having the willingness to pick yourself back up. |
