Being aware and being curious are both important aspects of discovering your creative side. However if you're only aware, you're only looking at what is obvious. And if you're only curious, you're only exploring the familiar. This is why you need to be curiously aware! The combination of the two is right where creativity blossoms. Become more aware of your surroundings by getting curious about them, explore things in new ways. Try reading or writing something you'd never normally read or write, talk to strangers, go to new places, try new foods, walk backwards. Discover things nobody else ever dare discover before. Even if you become curious about things that other people are already aware of, your personal reaction and new awareness can yield something interesting. The idea instantly reminds me of this great short film by Tom Gould, an emotional documentary on Martyka 'Skin Dog' Brand - gang member, champion race car driver and solo father. Exploring the way other people live can be an eye opening experience. It's just one way of getting curious and aware to produce amazing creative results. |
