Something that truly, truly baffles me about some students I've seen is a serious lack of passion. Yes, a degree is designed to educate and carry you forth into the future, so it is fair to say a lot of people have a passion for this future they see beyond the degree. But does this mean you can't be passionate about the degree? Not only will you enjoy your years of study a heck of a lot more but this passion will show. It will show to the people who "matter", the people in your future. It will reflect on the work you want to show them and therefore whether you get hired or not. It will show to your lecturers, tutors, your friends and your family. It will show to your study buddy's and hopefully even inspire them. But most importantly it will show you. It will show your capability to put all your effort and drive into something you care about, and just how successful you can be. Why is there such a "C's get degrees" mentality? As far as I've learnt a degree means nothing. You mean something. In fact you mean everything. I don't wish to bring down the people who are fighting to get through a degree with a pass to take on their dream jobs, I only mean to inspire a much easier way for you to get there. Bring your passion into everything you have. Why bother waiting three years to get a pretty certificate that cost you $30,000 when you could be getting out there and making a difference NOW. Bring that mentality into your degree work and you might find you'll get to your dream finish line a lot faster. |
