Advertising has taught me the power design has to sway people a certain way, and while some advertisers use this power at the expense of consumers it can also teach us how the concept or branding can be used for good. Swaying people in certain directions is essentially what branding and advertising does, usually you want to sway them towards you. If this is something that be be applied to businesses selling products, why can't it be applied to you selling your services? Be your own brand. Have a voice, have values and display this in everything you do. It means your personality will come across (usually an employers favourite part), your consistency, reliability and skills. A good brand is appealing and easy to comprehend, you will be sought after for who you are as well as what you do rather than just being judged by a bullet point list of qualifications and skills. Boring! Share who you are because there is nobody else like you, and that will show you are a lot more interesting than just another row on a list of people all with the same degree, for sure. |
