Creating routine and building habits can be a good thing. But sometimes it's important to analyse where you need to change it up a bit. If we get too caught up in routine our brain's actually go into 'lazy' mode, this is the feeling we get when we are so stuck into our routine that we don't need to focus in order to carry it out. For example sometimes when I leave for uni the bus trip seems to fly right by and all of a sudden I go from eating breakfast to sitting at my desk. Of course I remember it happening but I can also get so stuck in thought about other things that the trip wasn't all that memorable. Sometimes it can help to have this extra time for your brain to focus on other things, but you may not be considering what you are missing out on in the real world. Perhaps you are so set in your routine that you don't even realise what other, easier ways there are to do it. Not only that but I believe keeping yourself feeling alive and not so lazy can actually improve positivity and therefore your effect on others. Even making small changes to your routine can boost your level of focus, try walking a different way or having a different breakfast, sleep on your bed sideways for a change. Work in a different cubicle, move your furniture around. Have some fun with your routine and see how it impacts you. |
