Looking to spark some inspiration? If you're too stuck in you're own routine or style of creation and need to get your mind flowing again, try creating a challenge for yourself. Figure out the ways you normally work and then give yourself some new rules, at least to get you thinking and open up some doorways. Do it upside down, tell yourself you're not allowed to use you're regular drawing tools, give yourself a time limit. When we are faced with obstacles in tasks we find routine, it initially strikes us. But because it's so routine we feel there must be a way around it, our creativity is unleashed in trying to work around a problem. For example if you're going to walk through a doorway and someones put a chair in the way, you're faced with new options. You could decide to go through the other door, climb over the chair, move it out the way or ask someone to move it for you. All of a sudden you're faced with a lot more options then if you were to simply walk through that door the same way you have every day. It's a very basic example, but it illustrates that sometimes creating challenges or obstacles can present us with new solutions to the same problem and can potentially get you out of your creative block. |
