There is no such thing as the 'creative type'. Really there is an artist in all of us when we are young, we are all given a box of crayons and have our own crazy ideas of representing what's in front of us. What matters is the kids who manage to take that line of thinking into their future. Unlike the common conception, creativity is not something some people are either good at or not, it's a skill you can actually get better at if you practice. It's a way of thinking, a way of applying your knowledge or perception of the world, and it's completely personal. There is no right or wrong so how can anybody be 'bad' at it if there isn't a definition of good? The key to unlocking creativity is to learn that it's not necessarily about practicing how to draw 'better' or make things look 'better', it's about training your mind and your eye to see things with an open mind, to see the beauty in the scribbles and the rough sketches. To see the energy and emotion that can come from putting marks on a page. You could create the same piece over and over again until you've practiced how to perceive it a little differently, and a bit more creatively. You don't make creative work, you practice being a creative person making work.. |
