I think as human's it is natural to look back on the things we regret doing. What a waste of time. Firstly, if it's something you wanted to do at the time then what's so wrong with that? It probably helped shape who you are today. If it's something you wished you had noticed but didn't before it was too late, well it's right there in the punchline. It's too late now, dwelling on the past is not going to improve the future. So how can we improve the future? instead of looking back perhaps we should try looking forward. Think ahead to your future self looking back on your actions, are you considering doing something you'll regret in the future? or regret not doing? Act accordingly. This a great tool in so many ways, because looking back on regrets when you have no future to go into...well that's an aspect of life you will inevitably face. This is why I put so much pressure on doing things now and in the moment. Do you want to look back on your entire life wishing you had gotten to experience something? Imagine what you could have done with those weeks you wasted relaxing and watching TV. Go and make a fool of yourself! Break the chain of social rules, get crazy, be different and get out there because your life is a gift. It is only human to suffer from feelings of fear, anxiety and embarrassment. But if you want to stand here now imagining your future self saying "I lead a great life..." then you must be able to break the barriers of these fearful emotions now. |
