If we kept all our good ideas to ourselves, the human race wouldn't have evolved as much as it has today. New discoveries and ideas are always being shared as a means to gain collaborative help in bringing these ideas to life, and contributing to the evolvement of society. To disallow societal change and evolvement by constantly claiming things as our own, only caters to a sense of greed. Giving things away but expecting something in return only shows what little passion you have for what you do. This isn't to say you should give everything away for free, having financial gain from your work caters to your need to live, and customers should respect that. What you should give away in this instance without expecting any back is the passion and commitment. What you get back isn't important, it's the impact you create on people by giving things away, whether it be time, energy, products, skills or simply love. I believe this is the lesson someone was trying to teach me by offering this advice to use on my blog. He's given it away to me without expecting anything in return other than the knowledge that by giving it away, he's impacted some of my thoughts and potentially contributed to how I'll go about actions in the future. Thank you my friend :) |
