How do you know when it's time to stop researching and time to start doing some work? If you're anything like me you might procrastinate getting on to the actual work by continuing to hunt for inspiration, convincing yourself you're not quite ready to start doing. On the other hand you might wish the research phase could be over and you skip straight to the making. If one person had been constantly making since day one, compared to another who had simply been reading and watching videos, who would make the best work? The first person might be making work but it could be way off track and have no substance behind it, while the other hasn't even got any work to show but is well informed. These kind of projects require the perfect balance of research and making. The amount you need to do is different for everyone, it is important to consistently ask yourself "have I looked into this topic enough to begin making informed work?" If you sit down to work and are stuck for a starting point, you probably need to hunt down some inspiration. Careful you're not tricking yourself into thinking you have or haven't researched enough... |
