I don't really understand creatives who are nervous about showing their work. I'm sure there are cases where its work for your eyes only, or something intended for a certain audience rather than everyone. However, when the sole reason for not showing work is "what if people don't like it" or "It's not good enough to show", then it's saying a lot more about your attitude than about your work. Are you not a creative because you love what you do? Do you have a passion for creativity? Do you want to turn your love for creativity into a career path? How do you expect to achieve any of this without loving it enough to happily put it out there? If you can't make work that matters, or work your proud of, then what are you doing!? I want to see more people out there bravely showing off their work. Some might perceive 'showing off' as a bad thing, but in the creative industry it's the only way we get by. It's a statement of self worth and quite often your work is a statement about your personal values. Creative work is one of the easiest and most rewarding ways to get your opinion out there, and if you can't even look at it with pride then you need to look in another direction. Preferably towards a blank canvas. Start again, and this time don't swerve off course. Keep loving yourself and your work from start to finish. |
