You will undoubtedly face some kind of criticism in your life. Why waste time taking any of it to heart, when you could instead utilise it as a way of deciding whether you need to make a change or not. Criticism should be viewed as a tool rather than focusing on it being a negative input in your life. Analyse whether the criticism is intended to make you feel bad, or if it is delivered with the intent of suggesting something you could work on. You don't have to listen to anybody, that's why if you are facing criticism that is intended to be negative, you don't have to pay attention. However, if you are being critiqued in a positive and constructive way, perhaps it's something you should think about. In design and the arts especially, it is important to consider that a lot of what we do is opinion based, there is no right or wrong. So when faced with criticism it doesn't necessarily mean someone is right, it means they have an opinion (as is a human right), which they care enough about to share with you. Consider whether taking in other's opinions could positively effect your outcome, is there a way to tweak your work so that you can find more people who agree with you? Or do you believe entirely that what you have is at it's best? The only way to produce something amazing is to get a range of feedback and critique, take it in bravely and find out if/where work needs to be done. |
