This advice didn't come to me with the intention of exploring design, but I felt that it was something relatable in a lot of areas within and beyond design. So simple, yet so profound in the way it does this. To think is to have opinions, thoughts, and ideas inside you. In fact it's quite miraculous to realise you can actually talk and visualise things within yourself. When we consider what is ahead, we think of the future. What we do now will inevitably affect the future no matter how big or small our actions. Our thinking has the power to manipulate these actions, and therefore the future. This future involves more than just design (duh), but if design is something you are passionate about I imagine you are interested in it's future no matter how old you are. Will the future you think of come about after you are gone? or will you live to see it? I've come to discover why being a part of the future is so important for the now. If there are aspects of our current way of living that are not desirable, there are also actions we can take now to create change. Thinking of these actions will allow us to endeavour in any change we see fit. Will we be inevitably looking for change? yes. Because humans naturally desire what they do not have, and there will never be a world where everyone has everything. Maybe thinking ahead could be see then as a waste of our time, if we will never be truly happy anyway? Ah, but it is the pursuit and witnessing of change that can bring us joy. |
