If I was going to give you some cheesy, ineffective creative advice I would say 'think outside the box', but these cliche's just don't do it for me. Thank's for telling me what to do, now HOW do I do it exactly?! I've decided to extend this idea by instead telling you to think outside the box, literally. This is a completely different scenario despite only differing by one, powerful little word. The original phrase is simply telling you 'be creative', but how can we just be creative without some kind of initiative to get there? The box I'm talking about here is not solely your head. Our life is a box, whether we are in an office cubicle, a bedroom, a classroom, or even an entire building. Then that building is part of a series of buildings that belong in the box of a city, and the city is boxed in a suburb, an island, a country. In a stressful or uninspiring situation, it can pay to work on this exercise. Define what your box is, what is keeping you surrounded? The key is to literally get outside of it. Whether this means simply stepping outside and visiting an open beach, or a close by bench to your office building, or travelling to a new country. If your head is indeed your box, maybe you need to get out of it by having someone else look at your work with their fresh box. A good way to think outside the box, is to literally get outside of the box. |
