I don't mean this as a negative statement. I mean this as a question you should really ask yourself, who actually cares about your work? Because it will definitely benefit you to find out. Outside the creative field there are a lot of people who don't quite fit the same nutshell as you. I've seen a tonne of comments out there from people who don't quite fit the audience, people who come across harshly to what 'defines' art. This isn't about just finding who cares and speaking only to them, it's about understanding that you can't just expect everyone to be engaged and intrigued by you work. Sometimes you gotta help people care about new things in order to gain that intrigue. A mistake I've made by not considering 'who cares' is sharing two deeply contextual pieces of work on social media to ask 500 'friends' which they preferred for my final project. By not having the same intel or care on the matter as me the response and comments were pretty off from my intentions, But I went through with the result anyway... ultimately it did not serve me as well as I had hoped. Who cares? Why do they care? Why do they not? Should they care? How can I teach them to care? |
