Sometimes it's hard to know where to start with a creative project (safe to say, majority of the time?). It's never an easy feat especially on those tougher bigger projects. You have no idea where it will end up, and it's quite the risk to just go with something you like from the beginning. Who knows how your mind will change? What if it's too much of a risk and you won't end up liking the outcome? A solution to this could be perhaps to try working backwards. Instead of worrying about how to start since you can't imagine the end, why don't you imagine the end? What do you want people to walk away thinking and feeling after engaging with it? How can you make them feel that way? What journey might get you to that place? Sometimes by starting big and narrowing it down, you'll find the solution to a starting point. A key piece of advice to take away here is that you don't necessarily have to envision what you want it to look like, but rather what you want viewers to feel. That way you don't have to build the tension in your creatively blocked brain by trying to visualise the aesthetics. |
