Imagine a project deadline where you are fully prepared a week ahead of schedule. Has this happened to you? In my experience, there are a lot of people pulling late/all nighter's and complaining that there isn't enough time to get work done, who would kill for an extension. I myself even fall under this realm of stress, but I've come to discover that perhaps there is a reason this is so common. Why is it that every time I have a project, no matter how long I'm given, I always manage to get it done right on time? Not earlier, not later. On time. The deadline could be a week longer or a week shorter and I will still get it done right on time. This is because majority of the work is done in the last phase of time before the deadline, no matter when that deadline is. I believe a classic case of procrastination and poor time management is involved, but the real key to figuring this out, is to understand that you are probably misleading yourself. The reason you could be putting it off right from the start is because it either seems like such an overwhelming task, or you think it won't take that long. It can be so beneficial to create milestones for yourself, mini deadlines that allow you to sort the whole task into smaller tasks. You will hopefully be able to un-mislead yourself, organise your time while knowing that there is always time. |
