The other night I awoke in the middle of the night for no good reason, and my body refused to go back to sleep for another 3 hours despite being so sleepy. As horrible as it was to keep looking at the time to realise I'd gone another half hour without any sleeping action, I also realised something else. I was using my time comfortably in the darkness and silence to think about my uni project, and I came with so many good ideas. As it turns out, before you drift off to sleep is a perfect time to come up with ideas. Rather than finding yourself continuously distracted by day to day life, chirping birds, feeling the breeze in your face, walking around, eating, sitting, anything that involves slight concentration (or even subconscious concentration), you find yourself in serenity. Theres a free pathway of undistracted thoughts going to your brain when your in bed trying to sleep and they can sometimes be surprisingly valuable. |
